Dot Origin is pleased to announce the latest model of contactless NFC reader to join its well-known VTAP product range. The VTAP50L is a new variant of the popular VTAP50 NFC Wallet reader board that has been deployed widely in many regions and used for many applications, ranging from membership check-in and ticketing to loyalty and secure access control.
VTAP readers have been designed from the ground up as universal mobile-first devices that are certified for use with all modern NFC apps and wallets, most notably Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. They also read data from a wide range of physical cards and tags. The VTAP NFC range encompasses everything from surface-mountable modules and embedded reader boards to USB, OSDP and IP-connected units. In all cases they are certified for Apple VAS, Google Smart Tap and Apple ECP2/Access protocols as well as FCC, ISED, UKCA, CE and other radio emissions standards.
The partnership with LEGIC has led to the incorporation of the latest SM-6300 NFC front end security module and NFC interface into the VTAP50 design, and updates to the VTAP firmware that will accommodate LEGIC’s own cards and credentials. Also planned is a LEGIC version of the VTAP25 surface-mountable NFC reader module, which will be available in Q4 2025.
The LEGIC SM-6300 is an advanced security module that supports many popular contactless technologies including LEGIC prime and advant, MIFARE Classic, DESFire and Ultralight AES plus HID iCLASS, as well as applications that implement LEGIC neon files. Crucially, and especially when paired with Dot Origin’s advanced VTAP firmware, it also supports Apple’s ECP protocols to enable interaction with Apple Wallet using either VAS or ECP2/DESFire, plus all features needed for Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet, Host Card Emulation, GymKit handoff and many other mobile NFC protocols and credential types.
